Defending premier Aspley made amends for a disappointing loss to NT Thunder last week when they out-classed Ainslie by 54 points at Alan Ray Oval.

The Hornets were wayward in front of goals against the Territory but had no problems finding majors early against the Tricolours, kicking five goals to two in the first quarter to get off to a solid start.

They broke away in the second, finding another five goals to one to open up a commanding 43-point lead at half-time.

Ainslie made slight inroads in the third but they couldn’t break the Hornets formidable defence as they went down 15.10 (100) to 8.8 (56).

Gavin Grose starred in the backline for Aspley as they managed six multiple goal kickers at the other end.

Grose was ably supported by youngster Josh Wagner and midfielders Henry Joyce, Reece Toye and Matt Payne, while James Nelis was prominent up forward with three goals.

Wingman Jordan Harper shone for Ainslie with Ash Harris, Ian lawless and Rob Tuohey also performing well.

The win keeps the Hornets equal first on the ladder while the Tricolours, who head to Brisbane next week to face Redland at Tidbold Park, hold their spot inside the top six by percentage only.
