Gold Coast finished just outside the top six by percentage only after an 84-point thumping of Ainslie at Alan Ray Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The Suns did the damage in the middle quarters as they ran away with a 22.10 (142) to 8.10 (58) victory.

The Tricolours trailed by only 14 points at quarter-time but they were on the ropes at the next break when the Suns slammed on eight goals to one.

A further three goals to one in the third put the result beyond doubt by three-quarter time as Gold Coast trio Louis Herbert (five goals) and Peter Wright and Tyrone Downie (four each) proved too much to contain.

Draft prospect and Rising Star nominee Dyson Budarick was terrific for the Suns, ably supported by Jesse Joyce.

Nick Heyne led the way for Ainslie in their last match of the year alongside another young gun in Liam Griffiths, while Josh Bennett booted four goals.
