Ainslie came back from a slow start to record a thrilling two-point victory over Eastlake in the fourth and final Canberra derby of the season at Star Track Oval on Saturday.

The Demons led by 26 points at quarter-time but the match became an arm wrestle for the remaining three quarters as the Tricolours triumphed 11.13 (79) to 11.11 (77).

A burst of five goals in a row in the opening term gave Eastlake a handy buffer early but Ainslie back in the second with five goals to one putting the match back on level terms.

Little separated the sides in a pulsating second half where Ainslie led by two points heading into the final quarter.

The Demons wasted crucial chances in the third with a return of 1.7 to 2.1, but they came out firing with the first two goals for a 12-point lead at the 13 minute-mark.

Josh Bennett rose to the occasion in the final minutes, kicking his fourth approaching time-on before his fifth at the 26-minute mark from a contested mark 15m out put them in front.

Draft prospect Harry Himmelberg sent the ball long into the Demons forward 50 in the final few moments, but the siren sounded just as the ball was in the air.

Jesse Manton, Bennett and Nick Salter (30 disposals, eight clearances and nine inside 50s) guided Ainslie to victory, who take on Southport on the Gold Coast next week.

Rising Star nominee Brydan Hodgson (19 disposals, five clearances and a goal) was outstanding for Eastlake with Daniel De Gois, Kirk Mahon (29 disposals) and Donald Roberts among their better players.
