Redland Bombers are gathering momentum after winning their third straight match to solidify a place inside the top six over Ainslie in Canberra on Saturday.

The Bombers turned around a six-point deficit in the first quarter to win 12.19 (91) to 8.10 (58) at Alan Ray Oval.

The victory opens up a four-point gap between the sixth-placed Bombers and seventh-placed Ainslie.

The home side had the better start in the first quarter but Redland worked themselves into the contest in the second to pile on five goals to one and shift the match on their terms.

They turned a 22-point half-time lead into 31 by three-quarter time but could have been further in front if they did not waste 1.10 to 1.1.

But the Tricolours couldn’t mount a comeback in the last as Redland ran out 33-point winners, reversing a four-point loss last time the two sides met at Tidbold Park three weeks ago.

Sam Michael and Luke Rogerson booted three goals each to be the focal points up for ward while half-back Peter Yagmoor (one goal) and James Rayner did most of the damage around the ground.

Leaders Tom Salter (one goal) and Stephen Wrigley were important in the clinches and Brenton Saunders (one goal) and Josh Smith were other solid contributors.

Nick Salter top-scored with five goals for Ainslie while Jesse Manton, Sean Ellis and Simon Curtis were Ainslie’s better performers.

After losing five of their first seven games of the season, the Bombers are now back in finals contention after solid wins over Gold Coast, Southport and Ainslie.

They face defending premier Aspley at Tidbold Park this Saturday, and need a win to remain in the top six.
