AINSLIE DUO RIDING FOR A CAUSE
From the AFL Canberra Website
With Ainslie Football Club no longer part of the NEAFL competition, extra time was available for Chris Barrie and Reuben Haupt to delve into their passions.
The pair are jumping on their bikes for a fundraising ride from Canberra to Adelaide to promote awareness of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), an auto immune disease that debilitates the sufferer by attacking their healthy joint lining causing joint inflammation and damage.
The symptoms of RA can eventually lead to severe disability and psychological distress for the sufferer.
After witnessing the daily physical and emotional challenges his partner goes through, it inspired Barrie to help bring attention to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
“There is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding Rheumatoid Arthritis and our aim is to bring attention to the disease and help dispel the myths associated with Arthritis impacting only our older population.” Said Barrie
“We are really grateful for Ainslie Football Club’s continued support and Chris Rourke and John O’Loughlin have been amazing with bringing the Ainslie community on board with our cause. From cycling jersey production, sponsorships, BBQ’s and our Saturday morning rides. The club has been brilliant.”
The ride kicks off on the 31st of March at Parliament House in Canberra, covering 1,200 kilometres, and arriving at the final destination on the 8th of April at Adelaide Oval.
Every dollar raised as part of the ride will support Arthritis Australia’s National Research Project and RA awareness.
