Round 5 First Grade Match report - Ainslie v Queanbeyan
In fine conditions the Tri-colours took on reigning premiers the Queanbeyan Tigers. With both teams coming of a bye and at full strength personnel wise, it promised to be an entertaining clash. The first quarter opened at a fast pace with Ainslie scoring the first two goals due to some fine ball movement and with its midfield well on top they continually drove the ball forward. The only time the Tigers went forward they scored due to an undisciplined fifty meter penalty and at the first break the Tri-colours held a 32 point lead.
The second term saw Ainslie charge out of the box but failing to hit the scoreboard which allowed the Tigers to gain some momentum and with their backline gaining control they were continually surging the ball forward and were peppering the goals but they too were struggling to find the big sticks. At the main break Ainslie still held a 29 point lead.
The second half saw both side slugging it out but failing to take their chances and in the end the bigger and more experienced Ainslie boys ran out coniciving winners by 49 points. The best players being back man Damian Bowles, young gun Jordan Hedington, midfield players Wiles, Hirst and Harris. Main goal scorers being Armstrong with 4 and Delves with 3.
